Why Blog About Data

It’s as satisfying as looking at reading the latest ‘tea’ and getting all the receipts.

When COVID hit, I was teetering between the remains of an ailing consultancy gig and unemployment. A year of waiting for everything to be ‘back to normal’ did not cut it. And when boredom and isolation strikes, ridiculous ideas happen: for me that is going back to old-school blogging.

I like looking at data and the many visualizations people make out of it, thanks to /r/dataisbeautiful. Data visualization is art and science smashed together, and because my previous industry was similar - only with the archaic Excel speadsheets, specialized geotechnical software, making non-technical people appreciate and understand data – it clicked.

There are hundreds of fun websites that involve data visualizations and data science in general, but not a lot of them try to touch upon the Philippines. So, I decided to look at data typically ignored, including those about my country, and try to make stories about them.

Hopefully, while I’m just starting, it will encourage you, the reader, to look at data and try to understand it. It’s as satisfying as looking at reading the latest ‘tea’ and getting all the receipts.
